Title: Agency and educational success: the re-engagement of drop-out students in VET schools
Abstract: This paper presents preliminary results from a research about a group of atrisk and drop out students re-engaged in VET schools of Veneto, a region ofItaly. From theoretical framework of Capability Approach we claim that inclusionand success in education are related to the development and expressionof agency. Although partial, the data collected highlight a vulnerabilityof agency of these young people. Furthermore the data show the presenceof economic and socio-cultural variables that indicate a high risk of socialmarginalization, VET cannot be considered the umbrella solution forearly school leaving. Tackling ESL should take greater account of factors thatmay affect the agency of young people. More evidence of research can helpthe debate in this field and address educational policies.

Abstract: Questo lavoro illustra i risultati preliminari di una ricerca condotta con studentia rischio e con esperienze precedenti di fallimento formativo, frequentantiil primo e il terzo anno di percorsi di formazione professionaledel Veneto. A partire dal Capability Approach Framework si afferma che inclusione e successo educativo nei giovani sono connessi allo sviluppo e all'espressione della propria agency. Sebbene parziali, i dati raccolti mostranola vulnerabilità dell'agency formativa d questi ragazzi e il forte peso dellevariabili economiche e socio-culturali, che indicano un alto rischio di marginalizzazione sociale. È necessario prendere in considerazione più ampiamente i fattori che ostacolanol'espressione dell'agency dei ragazzi.
