Title: Self-perceived employability in Higher Education: an exploratory study
Abstract: The complexity and the dynamism of socio-economic contexts, the consequent transformations that have affected the world of work and professions have generated the attention of scholars and organizations not so much on people's employment but on their employability. The debate on the issue of employability is still open and the perspectives developed are different. However, what seems to relate the different perspectives that can be found in the literature is the idea according to which employability concerns the ability of people to find work and above all to keep it. It is a complex concept, where the individual dimension is intertwined with the contextual one, generating a mutual influence. The purpose of this exploratory study is to focus on the subjective dimension of employability. It presents a brief survey, conducted at the University of Padova, on the self-perceived employability (SPE) of 38 students. Data were collected using the Rotwhell et al. Scale. (2008). Findings show that participants' SPE seems to be strongly determined by individual factors (self-beliefs, ambition). Even if external factors are perceived with less influence, the university's reputation plays a significant role. These findings are in line with the idea that the higher the level of self-efficacy, the lower the perceived threat of external uncertainty. The implications for Higher Education systems refer to the need to support the development of positive self-beliefs of learners and to guarantee a good reputation of the university system, because it significantly affects both students' SPE and the willingness of organizations to meet the needs and the expectations of young job seekers.

Abstract: La complessità e la dinamicità dei contesti socioeconomici, le conseguenti trasformazioni che hanno interessato il mondo del lavoro e le professioni hanno generato l'attenzione di studiosi e organizzazioni non tanto sull'employment quanto sull'employability. Il dibattito sul tema dell'employability risulta ancora aperto e le prospettive sviluppate sono diverse. Tuttavia, ciò che sembra mettere in relazione le diverse prospettive rintracciabili in letteratura è l'idea secondo la quale l'employability riguarda la capacità delle persone di trovare lavoro e soprattutto mantenerlo. Si tratta di un concetto complesso, dove la dimensione individuale si intreccia con quella conte-stuale, determinandone una reciproca influenza. Lo scopo di questo studio esplorativo è di soffermarsi sulla dimensione soggettiva dell'employability, presentando una breve indagine, condotta all'Università di Padova, sulla self-perceived employability (SPE) di 38 studenti. I dati sono stati raccolti con l'utilizzo della scala di Rotwhell et al. (2008). I risultati ottenuti mostrano che la SPE dei partecipanti sembra essere fortemente determinata da fattori individuali (self-beliefs, ambizione). Anche se i fattori esterni sono percepiti con minore influenza, la reputazione dell'università ha un ruolo significativo. Questi risultati trovano rispondenza con l'idea che maggiore è il livello di self-efficacy minore è la minaccia percepita dell'incertezza esterna. Le implicazioni che ne derivano per i sistemi di Higher Education si riferiscono alla necessità di sostenere lo sviluppo di positivi self-beliefs di chi apprende e di garantire una buona reputazione del sistema universitario, perché influenza significativamente sia la SPE di studenti e studentesse sia la disponibilità delle organizzazioni a soddisfare bisogni e aspettative dei giovani in cerca di lavoro.

Abstract: La complexité et le dynamisme des contextes socio-économiques, les transformations qui ont suivi qui ont affecté le monde du travail et les professions ont suscité l'attention des universitaires et des organisations non pas tant sur l'ourlet que l'employabilité.Le débat sur le thème de l'amployabilité est toujours ouvert et les perspectives développées sont différentes.Cependant, ce qui semble relier les différentes perspectives traçables dans la littérature, c'est l'idée que l'employabilité concerne la capacité des gens à trouver du travail et surtout la maintenir.C'est un concept complexe, où la dimension individuelle est liée à ce contempori, déterminant une influence mutuelle.Le but de cette étude exploratoire est de se concentrer sur la dimension subjective de l'amplabilité, présentant une courte enquête, menée à l'Université de Padoue, sur l'employabilité autonome (SPE) de 38 étudiants.Les données ont été collectées avec l'utilisation de l'échelle de Rotwhell et al.(2008).Les résultats obtenus montrent que le houblon des participants semble être fortement déterminé par des facteurs individuels (confiance en soi, ambition).Bien que les facteurs externes soient perçus avec moins d'influence, la réputation de l'université a un rôle important.Ces résultats trouvent le respect de l'idée que plus le niveau d'auto-efficacité est élevé moins est la menace perçue d'incertitude externe.Les implications qui en tirent pour les systèmes d'enseignement supérieur se réfèrent à la nécessité de soutenir le développement de soi-disant positifs de ceux qui apprennent et garantissent une bonne réputation du système universitaire, car il influence considérablement à la fois l'espoir des étudiants et des étudiants et la disponibilité des organisations pour satisfaire les besoins et les attentes des jeunes à la recherche de travail.
