Title: The Empirical Phenomenological Method (EPM) and Its Application within an Educational Research

Abstract: The article presents an innovative and rigorously founded research method, particularly suitable for empirical studies in the educational field: the Empirical Phenomenological Method (EPM). After describing the theoretical bases and heuristic actions of the method, its application within an educative research aimed at promoting ethics for citizenship in a primary school will be shown. Attention will be paid to the use of the EPM for the analysis of data relating to a Socratic conversation. The method's effectiveness in evaluating the outcomes of the implemented activity will be argued. The article offers a contribution in order to respond to the growing need to identify adequate methods to verify the quality of interventions in schools, highlighting their strengths and criticalities. The potential of the EPM will be discussed both in reference to the improvement of educational and teaching practices and in the training and enhancement of teaching professionalism.
