Title: Potential Pitfalls in Economics Education: Pedagogical Opportunities

Abstract: Economics is often accused of being complicit with much of what has gone wrong with economic life in the last thirty years, such as failing to predict the global financial crisis of 2007‍–‍2008. This and various other problems that have come to light have led even its proponents to question the capacity of the discipline to account for real-world events or for assisting in policy formulation. In this paper, I argue in favour of an alternative conceptualisation for economics and economics education, and discuss the resulting insights and implications for teaching and learning that can enable young people to grasp disciplinary knowledge in economics.

Abstract: L'economia è spesso accusata di essere la complice di molti degli errori che hanno segnato la vita economica negli ultimi trent'anni, come la mancata previsione della crisi finanziaria globale del 2007‍–‍2008. Unitamente a ciò, altri problemi emergenti di varia natura hanno addirittura condotto i sostenitori di questa tesi a mettere in dubbio la capacità della disciplina di rendere conto degli eventi del mondo reale o di contribuire nella formulazione delle politiche. In questo articolo, argomento in favore di una concettualizzazione alternativa dell'economia e dell'educazione economica e discuto le intuizioni che ne derivano e cosa ciò implichi per l'insegnamento e l'apprendimento – auspicando che ciò aiuti i giovani a meglo comprendere la disciplina economica.

Abstract: L'économie est souvent accusée d'être complice d'une grande partie de ce qui a mal tourné avec la vie économique au cours des trente dernières années, comme le fait de ne pas prédire la crise financière mondiale de 2007‍ ‍2008.Cet et divers autres problèmes qui ont été révélés ont conduit même ses partisans à remettre en question la capacité de la discipline à rendre compte des événements du monde réel ou à aider à la formulation des politiques.Dans cet article, je plaide en faveur d'une conceptualisation alternative pour l'économie et l'éducation économique, et discuter des idées et des implications qui en résultent pour l'enseignement et l'apprentissage qui peuvent permettre aux jeunes de saisir les connaissances disciplinaires en économie. Junto con esto, otros problemas emergentes de diversa índole han llevado incluso a los defensores de esta tesis a cuestionar la capacidad de la disciplina para dar cuenta de los eventos del mundo real o contribuir en la formulación de políticas. En este artículo, argumento a favor de una conceptualización alternativa de la economía y la educación económica y discuto las intuiciones que se derivan y lo que esto implica para la enseñanza y el aprendizaje – esperando que esto ayude a los jóvenes a comprender mejor la disciplina económica.

Além disso, outros problemas emergentes de diversas naturezas até levaram os defensores desta tese a questionar a capacidade da disciplina de relatar eventos do mundo real ou de contribuir na formulação de políticas. Neste artigo, argumento a favor de uma conceitualização alternativa da economia e da educação econômica e discuto as percepções que dela derivam e o que isso implica para o ensino e aprendizagem – esperando que isso ajude os jovens a entender melhor a disciplina econômica.
